Practical Steps for Discipleship: Using Logos to Deepen Prayer and Study

For anyone who’s eager to grow in their walk with Christ, the tools that Dr. John Fallahee shared in his recent webinar can be a real help. The focus is on three core habits that support discipleship: prayer, careful observation, and word study. Below we walk through the key parts of the session and show how you can apply them in your own study routine.

1. Build a Living Prayer List

Start by creating a Prayer List in Logos. Name it something simple—"Prayer Journal 2026"—and add a topic that matters to you, such as a city, a ministry, or a specific group of people. Use the Answer Box to record more than just a yes/no. Write down the circumstances, insights, or any new understanding that God gives you in that moment. Creating a prayer list in Logos

2. Keep Your Prayers Organized with Tags and Reminders

Logos lets you tag each prayer entry (e.g., state or family) so you can search and filter later. Add a reminder—choose a day, week, or month—and set the exact dates you want to revisit. The reminder shows up as a card on your Dashboard, keeping you accountable without cluttering your main workspace. Tagging and setting reminders for prayer lists in Logos

3. Use Visual Filters to Spot Patterns in Scripture

Filters are a quick way to see how often certain words or grammatical forms appear in a passage. For example, you can highlight all Greek verbs in a book to notice the action language Christians use when describing ministry. Dr. Fallahee showed how to enable a filter, choose a specific Bible edition, and then toggle the filter on or off. This visual cue helps you notice patterns that inform how you pray about that text. 4. Link Your Word Studies Directly into Your Notes

Instead of copying long dictionary entries, use the Copy Link feature. Highlight a word (e.g., ravaging), click the chain icon in your note, and paste the link. Hovering over the link gives a quick preview, and clicking takes you straight to the full definition. This keeps your notes tidy and lets you revisit the original source whenever you need deeper study. Linking a word study into a note in Logos

5. End Your Session with a Prayerful Reflection

After you finish a study, take a moment to pray. Thank God for the clarity of Scripture, the insights you gained, and the technology that helps you dig deeper. This practice roots the technical work back into the heart of discipleship—recognizing that every study is an act of worship and growth.
